Key Ingredients

Rhodiola Complete Blend: A full spectrum standardized blend using two concentrated extracts and organic rhodiola root. Intended for supporting energy, performance and stamina.1

Other Ingredients

Vegan capsule, cellulose, organic Lithothamnium, silica, calcium stearate (vegetable source)

Dosage

Take one capsule with water.

Duration of Use

Up to 12 weeks.

Health Benefits

Stress Support: Rhodiola is mostly known for its role as an adaptogen, an herb that supports your body’s natural response to stress. In clinical studies with animals, rhodiola was found to influence stress hormone release and support energy metabolism.2 In a trial evaluating the use of rhodiola on self reported stress and other mood symptoms, there was a significant improvement in overall mood after 14 days of consistent intake.3 A four week treatment with 101 subjects taking 200mg twice daily of rhodiola rosea extract showed similar benefits with improvements reported after 3 days of use.4

Energy: Supporting energy levels is where this herb can be truly beneficial. A 2017 study using rhodiola rosea in those low energy showed improvement in energy after 8 weeks of use.5 The initial signs of low energy started to reduce after the first week of including 200 mg twice daily.5  Another systematic review reported that some evidence suggested rhodiola may be helpful for aiding physical performance and supporting mental fatigue.6 There are still contradictory results since some clinical trial methodology could lead to bias, therefore, more randomized, placebo-controlled studies are needed to support this function claim.6

Focus and Mental Stamina: The work performance and memory enhancement effects of rhodiola may be due to its adaptogenic influence on the central nervous system and the neuro supportive antioxidants that support brain health.1 In a double-blind, placebo controlled pilot study, students were given rhodiola rosea extract for 20 days during an examination period. The conclusion of this study revealed that rhodiola may increase over all wellbeing, support mental fatigue and physical fitness as well as neuro-motoric tests.7 Similar findings were also seen in a systematic review and meta-analysis of rhodiola on memory and learning.8 These studies were a summary of preclinical trials in animals testing their ability to learn, recognize patterns and rely on memory to complete various tasks.8

When combined with other adaptogenic and cognitive supporting herbs, there could be a potential increase in the potential role of this herb. Another trial evaluating the combination of ginkgo biloba with rhodiola rosea showed major improvements in both memory and cognitive function as compared to when used alone.9

Quercetin Complex

Quercetin is a flavonoid or plant pigment that works within the cell to fight oxidative activity, which are unstable molecules your body naturally creates that can cause stress within the body.

This antioxidant is commonly found in foods such as onions, apples and berries as well as herbal products such as ginkgo biloba.

Flavor & Fettle Quercetin Complex also contains Vitamin C, Magnesium, Lemon Bioflavonoid and Bromelain from pineapple to support the benefits of Quercetin in the body. Combined this may support needs that are common with seasonal weather changes. As Quercetin is only recommended to be taken 12 weeks at a time, you can rotate it with our Mushroom Defense Mix.

Key Ingredients

Vitamin C: Antioxidant powerhouse with many roles from supporting immune health to encouraging collagen production. When combined with quercetin, vitamin C activity increases. 1

Magnesium: Mineral needed for over 300 enzyme activities in the body. Magnesium is essential for energy production, formation of DNA/RNA and bone health. When combined with quercetin, the antioxidant activity can increase.2

Quercetin: A bioflavonoid compound found in colorful fruits and vegetables that support antioxidant activity and immune health during seasonal changes.3

Lemon Bioflavonoid Complex: Antioxidant citrus complex that supports the activity of cellular health.

Bromelain: Enzyme found in pineapple. This is added to our quercetin complex to support the body’s natural inflammatory response.

Other Ingredients

Vegan capsule (cellulose), cellulose, magnesium stearate (vegetable source), silica

Dosage

Take 1-4 250mg capsules daily between meals.

Duration of Use

Up to 1g of Quercetin daily for up to 12 weeks at a time.3

Health Benefits

Antioxidant: Quercetin has the ability to regulate levels of glutathione (a key naturally occurring antioxidant in the body), act on specific pathways that modulate antioxidant activity and aid the liver by supporting the health of the fats in the outer protective layer of cells. 4

Healthy Aging: There are multiple hallmarks of aging such as telomere length, epigenetic influences, and mitochondrial dysfunction..5 When cells no longer function properly, they can contribute to the aging process. Quercetin, however, has the ability to increase cell death or what is known as autophagy.6,7 This is a natural process that your body does to clear old and insufficient materials to make way for the new. When they are not cleared, which can happen with age, disease states can develop.7 Quercetin can be a supportive nutrient that enhances your ability to encourage this process.5,6,7

Immune Health: While acting as an antioxidant, quercetin has the ability to support the health of your cells while encouraging a healthy immune response to seasonal health and weather changes. 8,9

Joint Health: While trials are limited in the use of quercetin for joint health, some findings are hopeful. In a double-blind randomized controlled clinical trial reviewing the discomfort levels of those with joint concerns, quercetin supplementation of 500mg for 8 weeks showed significant improvement.10,11Quercetin is an important part of a healthy mobility formula. In my experience, this high-ORAC nutrient helps soothe the joints and body.

Flavor & Fettle Panax Ginseng contains a full spectrum of standardized ginseng and is best for supporting cognitive health.

Key Ingredients

Full Spectrum Ginseng: A root originating from Asia that has been traditionally used as an adaptogen in Traditional Chinese Medicine.1 Ours is a full spectrum formulation containing both an extract with 7% ginsenosides and organic ginseng root.

Other Ingredients

Vegan capsule, calcium stearate, (vegetable source), silica

Dosage

Take 1 capsule daily.

Duration of Use

Up to 6 months.1

Health Benefits

Energy: As an adaptogenic herb, panax ginseng supports your natural energy levels through moderating your stress response. Various studies have reviewed this possible connection and theorized that the supportive antioxidant properties of this herb supports cell health from oxidative activity and supports energy metabolism within the cell.2 Essentially, ginseng may support the healthy functions of your cells leading to better energy production.

In a review of both animal and human clinical trials evaluating the influence on low energy when panax ginseng is consumed, there were several biomarkers associated with stress and energy in the body that were monitored.2 A few examples include those associated with an inflammatory response and lactic acid levels in the blood.2 Many of these pathways were altered indicated that ginseng may be able to support the various mechanisms the body uses to respond to stress.2

A randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled trial comparing the influence of ginseng on energy levels was conducted in 2013.3 Ninety subjects were given 1g, 2g or a placebo for the duration of 4 weeks.3 During this time, the self reporting rate of low energy decreased while the serum levels of glutathione (antioxidant produced naturally in the body) increased in those who consumed 1g of ginseng per day.3

Another animal study looking at low energy and the use of ginseng polysaccharides to lower oxidative activity revealed a potential for supporting energy production.4  Mice were given an extract of ginseng polysaccharides for 15 days while conducting a forced swim test for low energy markers.4 A general reduction in these markers suggest that the polysaccharides in ginseng may have a contributing role in supporting energy levels.4

Cognitive Health: Ginseng has the potential to support memory and general cognitive function when consumed appropriately. A review of several double-blind and single-blind randomized, placebo controlled studies evaluated the role of ginseng on cognitive function.5 These studies concluded that there were some levels of improvement for quality of life, cognitive function and behavior, however, more clinical trials are needed for a larger population group, especially when investigating the use in memory in certain patients.5

Another randomized placebo-controlled study with 36 healthy volunteers with reported high stress levels were given either ginseng at 500mg or a placebo for six weeks.6 The study revealed that ginseng may support the sympathetic nervous system and cognitive function as seen in serum epinephrine levels and performance test evaluations.6 This indicates that taking panax ginseng while under high stress may help support not only your response to stress but your ability to perform mental tasks while in this state.

Organic Spirulina

Spirulina is a blue-green algae that is often found in natural lakes. It’s rich in nutrients like vitamins, trace minerals, fats and antioxidants that support the body’s day-to-day function. Plus, the algae’s green pigment is a source of chlorophyll, a supportive nutrient found in foods such as leafy green vegetables.

Unlike other supplements, our Spirulina is made without any additives or preservatives, and it’s tested for heavy metals, pesticides, herbicides and toxins, meaning the only ingredient you’ll find inside the bottle is 100% organic Spirulina.

This is a great option if you are looking for a natural, whole-food supplement.

Key Ingredients

Blue Green Algae: A naturally occurring nutrient found in lakes and ponds. Contains various nutrients such as proteins, vitamins, minerals, fatty acids and chlorophyll. 1

Other Ingredients

 N/A

Dosage

Take 6 tablets daily with food for full benefits.

Duration of Use

Use in doses of 1-10g for up to 6 months. 9

Benefits

Antioxidant: Our spirulina contains the active ingredient C-Phycocyanin, a protein that may support the death of old cells.1,2 Through normal use during metabolism, cells produce by-products that can build up over time and cause instability. Your body has a natural process of disposing of these old, inefficient cells but as we age or our bodies become stressed from the external environment and daily metabolism which may lower our ability to get rid of the damaged cells. This is where an antioxidant such as spirulina can come in handy.

Spirulina also reduces the oxidation of lipids that could lead to further stress in the body and regulates enzymes that support antioxidant activity in the cells such as Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) and Glutathione Peroxidase (GPX).3

Chelating Effects: Spirulina has the ability to absorb heavy metals from its environment. This may be a helpful tool if minor levels of metals such as mercury, cadmium or lead are present. 4,5,6 Care should be taken when removing heavy metals, strong reactions can occur when pulling these toxins from the tissue. Therefore, please consult with your physician if using spirulina for this purpose. If you experience heavy metal toxicity, you will need the guidance of an experienced physician and/or stronger FDA approved chelation agents.

Immune Support: Clinical trials are currently evaluating spirulina’s role in influencing gut microbiome activity that can potentially support immune health originating within the intestines.7,8

*Our product is tested for beta-N-methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA), a toxin associated with some contaminated spirulina sources.

However, not all Ginkgo Biloba supplements are created equal. Some include added ingredients to reduce cost. Flavor & Fettle extract is standardized to contain the active ingredients flavone glycosides and terpene lactones that support the quality and benefits of this herb.

To understand how Ginkgo Biloba works in your body, we recommend starting with one capsule a day, slowly increasing as needed and then pausing after 6 months of use. For your best results, please consult your primary care physician.

Key Ingredients

Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract: Ginkgo is a tree with fanned leaves native to various locations in Asia. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this herb has been used to support brain health and energy levels.1

Other Ingredients

Capsule ( vegetable source), cellulose, magnesium stearate (vegetable source)

Dosage

Take one capsule up to four times daily with 8 oz. warm water

Duration of Use

60-240mg daily for up to 6 months.1

Health Benefits

Healthy Circulation: Ginkgo Biloba has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for over a thousand years to open up energy channels and increase blood flow to address various conditions.1 Clinical trials evaluating this process hypothesize that the active ingredients such as flavonoids and terpenoids may support this function through increasing antioxidant activity and Nitric Oxide levels that are crucial for the opening of blood vessels to allow blood flow. 2 In one small pilot study evaluating cerebral blood flow and the use of ginkgo biloba, nine healthy men around the age of 60 were evaluated for 4 weeks using 60mg of Ginkgo Biloba extract twice per day.3 After this period, and review of blood flow to various lobes of the brain, minor increases in the left parietal-occipital and a small increase in global cerebral blood flow was seen.3

In terms of general benefits, this herb has the potential to provide additional antioxidants, and support towards a natural inflammatory response when combined with other lifestyle and dietary factors.4,5 There may also be some benefits for circulation to the extremities. In a 2009 study researching the potential benefits of ginkgo biloba and walking time in adults with poor circulation to their extremities, there was a small increase in the treadmill walking time and flow mediated vasodilation.6

Brain Health: Ginkgo Biloba may be most known for its brain supporting benefits associated with age related memory loss. It can act as a stimulant for the brain and impact cerebral blood circulation which can influence cognitive function overall. 7

A systematic review of 10 clinical trials revealed that ginkgo biloba had a dose-dependent increase in daily activities and cognitive responses, when taking 240 mg daily as compared to a placebo.7  Another review of 21 randomized controlled clinical trials comparing the efficacy of ginkgo biloba in those with mild cognitive impairment showed benefits for completing daily activities and cognitive responses.8 More studies are needed, however, before definitive conclusions can be drawn for the use of ginkgo biloba for memory health in specific conditions.

Female Hormone Support: When used strategically during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle, typically around days 16 - through day 5, ginkgo biloba may have potential benefits for reduction in breast tenderness, physical and other psychological needs associated with the menstrual cycle.1,9 In a randomized, placebo-controlled trial looking at the treatment of these needs with ginkgo biloba, eighty five participants were evaluated for the impact of this herbal extract versus a placebo. The conclusion of this study found that Ginkgo Biloba may reduce the severity of the ailments associated with menstrual health.9

Fermented Beet with Maca

The beetroot vegetable is abundant in polyphenols. These antioxidants provide numerous benefits that we are just starting to understand.

Beet, in particular, has been used for its beneficial role in supporting your body’s use of oxygen during exercise which may support athletic performance. During recovery, the benefits continue in its potential to reduce soreness induced by extensive exercise.

With the addition of the adaptogen Maca, carotenoids and greens, this supplement further supports recovery and performance of the everyday athlete and exercise enthusiast as well as aids hormone health and antioxidant intake.

Key Ingredients

Organic Fermented Beetroot: A root vegetable with culinary and therapeutic uses. Beetroot is most known for its role in supporting athletic performance and reducing muscle soreness.1 Our powder is fermented to increase absorption and is made from organic raw beets that have been dried and reduced to a powder.

Organic Maca Root: A root native to Peru that has been used traditionally for supporting fertility.2

Organic Carrot Root: Provides a source of carotenoids for healthy cells.

Organic Spinach:  Provides a source of greens to support a healthy immune system.

Other Ingredients

Capsule (tapioca), organic rice powder, organic calcium (lithothamnium)

Dosage

Take 2 capsules daily.

Duration of Use

Short term, exact duration is undetermined. Best when used strategically around intense exercise or to support athletic performance when consumed 30-45 minutes prior to activity.1

Health Benefits

Exercise Performance:  Current clinical trials are limited to males who engage in high intensity athletic performances. It is unclear how this would influence female athletes or those exercising for general health maintenance.1 In a systematic review including beetroot juice, not powdered supplements, there appeared to be an increase in nitric oxide levels which helps with blood flow, muscle contraction, oxygen levels and mitochondria health.4

Exercise Recovery: Beetroot may have the ability to support recovery efforts post exercise. The antioxidant and supporting benefits of lowering reactive oxygen species created in the cell during exercise could be the potential reasoning behind these benefits.3 In a systematic review of current available clinical studies, beetroot was evaluated for its ability to support recovery after exercise.3 This review showed that overall, muscle soreness improved, however, other markers of muscle repair were minimal, more studies evaluating longer term use of beetroot may be needed to determine other potential benefits.3

Hormone Health: Maca, in particular, is an adaptogen that is most known for its beneficial role in supporting the endocrine system that regulates your hormones.5,6 When combined with beetroot, this adaptogen may help your body handle an increased exercise routine while lowering the stress on your nervous system that is often experienced with sudden increases in exercise activity.

Heart Health: Beetroot has been evaluated for its potential role in supporting the body’s natural nitric oxide production due to the presence of nitrates in this root vegetable.7 Nitric oxide is a molecule that controls how your body opens blood vessels through a process called vasodilation. Nitric oxide is necessary for controlling the rate at which your blood circulates through your body.8 Although research is fairly new in this area, the nitrates in beetroots are converted to nitric oxide in the body which may be beneficial for general heart health.8,9

Organic Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha is a shrub that has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years to support energy levels and calm the body. This herb can be classified as an adaptogen, meaning that it may help your body handle stress and aid in concentration.

Our Organic Ashwagandha is a great option if you are looking for support during times of excess stress and need steady energy for an overall sense of well-being.

Although it has many benefits, it shouldn’t be taken every day. We recommend taking this herb for a maximum of 12 weeks during stressful times.

Key Ingredients

Organic Ashwagandha: Herb originating in Ayurvedic medicine to promote cognitive health and energy support.1 Ours is standardized with 10% Withanolides for adaptogenic activity.

Other Ingredients

Organic rice powder, organic palm oil

Dosage

Take one tablet daily.

Duration of Use

We recommend a short duration for best results. Doses up to 1,000mg for approximately 3 months have been evaluated, however, a maximum of 6 months are seen in some clinical trials.1

Health Benefits

Stress Reduction: In various studies, Ashwagandha has been shown to be beneficial in those who experience ongoing stress. The primary benefits are seen from the herb’s ability to support the body’s response to the stress hormone cortisol.1,2,3 The effects of stress related weight gain have also been evaluated and the use of this adaptogenic herb may have a modest influence on lowering stress-related weight gain when compared to a placebo.1,4

Hormone Health in Men: Ashwagandha may be beneficial for supporting healthy levels of testosterone, natural DHEA-S production and fertility outcomes.5 A study evaluating the sperm quality and motility as well as the amount of cell damage from lipid peroxidation showed beneficial outcomes in fertility for men.6,7  While trials are still in the early stages and further research with larger sample sizes are needed, this herb could be a great addition to a hormone supporting regimen.

Hormone Health in Women: Ashwagandha has many beneficial effects on the endocrine system and adrenal glands that can influence the hormones released throughout the menstrual cycle. With a reduction in stress hormones, there could be a beneficial outcome in supporting healthy female hormone levels.1 There could also be a positive effect on libido in women and sexual function overall through influencing the natural testosterone levels in women.8,9

Cognitive Health: Ashwagandha may be beneficial for reducing the symptoms associated in those with excess stress such as increased cortisol levels, increased food cravings, mood swings, memory and attention. 10,11

Sleep Support: Ashwagandha may be a beneficial aid in supporting the quality of sleep and ability to fall asleep faster.12 In a 10 week clinical study evaluating 60 individuals taking 300 mg of Ashwgandha twice per day,  improvement in sleep quality was seen in those taking the herb when compared to the placebo. 12

Vitamin D3 5,000IU

When exposed to the sun, cholesterol within our skin converts the sun’s rays to a usable form of Vitamin D, giving it the nickname “the sunshine vitamin.” However in times of less sunlight, like during the winter months, it may be beneficial to add Vitamin D to your supplement routine.

Vitamin D’s health benefits include supporting a healthy immune response, regulating your endocrine system, controlling calcium circulation as well as strengthening bone and muscle.

Flavor & Fettle has Vitamin D3 in both 2,000IU and 5,000IU. The 2,000 IU is great for general daily maintenance while the 5,000 IU may be beneficial for deficiencies or for those who have difficulty absorbing vitamin D.

Key Ingredients

Cholecalciferol:  The form of vitamin D that turns into the active hormone that helps your body absorb calcium.

Other Ingredients

Cellulose, modified cellulose gum, silica, stearic acid (vegetable source), magnesium stearate (vegetable source)

Dosage

Take one tablet daily with food, do not exceed two tablets per day unless directed by a physician

Duration of Use

Unlimited since this is an essential nutrient for the human body. Dosages may vary depending on time of year or conditions. For a more personalized approach work with your doctor to run a vitamin D lab test to assess the values you need.

Health Benefits

Hormone Activity: Vitamin D is actually a steroid hormone that the body creates from converting cholesterol within the skin with ultraviolet sunlight to produce Vitamin D.2,3 This initial form is considered a prohormone meaning that it will become a hormone when converted within the liver and then kidneys to become the active form of calcitriol.2,3 The form found in our vitamin D3 supplements is cholecalciferol. This is the form that is created naturally by the skin through sunlight exposure before being converted to the active form calcitriol.2,3

A hormone controls how a cell or organ performs a certain function while a vitamin or mineral is a necessity to an organism's function. Essentially, the vitamins and minerals are the moving parts of a machine, without which the machine will not function. The hormone will act like a messenger and come in to speed up or slow down this process or tell the “machine” to do a certain task.

In terms of acting like a hormone, once vitamin D is converted to the active form within the kidney, it will go out to other parts of the body where receptors (or parking spots for vitamin D) bind to the hormone on target organs to perform a certain task or biological responses. 4 A great example of this is vitamin D telling the intestine to absorb or ignore calcium and phosphorus.3

Bone Health: As mentioned above, the primary role of vitamin D is to regulate calcium and phosphorus levels. These two nutrients are crucial for the maintenance of your bones. Vitamin D deficiency is now recognized as one of the leading causes that attribute to bone loss and bone ailments later in life.5 In 2010, the FDA made an amendment to labeling items with the health claim that calcium reduces osteoporosis risks to also include vitamin D since this is such an important regulatory nutrient needed to balance bone mineral levels.6

Immune Health:  Multiple studies are now evaluating the role of vitamin D as an immunomodulating hormone that can influence both innate and adaptive immune responses.7  Recently, clinical trials are researching the correlation between low vitamin D serum levels and the potential development of various conditions.7 More studies are needed before definitive treatment is prescribed.

*Disclaimer: Although popularity has exponentially increased in recent years, vitamin D is still considered a hormone and too much can cause unfavorable outcomes in the regulation of calcium and phosphorus. While it is generally accepted to take a lower dose during the winter months when sunlight exposure is typically low, it is recommended to get your serum levels checked before supplementing with higher doses.

Vitamin C

When you think of Vitamin C, you probably think of supporting your immune system, but that’s only the start of its many benefits.

Vitamin C can also support collagen production which helps your joints, skin and connective tissues, and it works with the body to absorb and enhance Iron and Vitamin E.

At the cellular level, Vitamin C may help the body use dietary fat more efficiently to produce energy, which is crucial for those eating a higher-fat diet.

Flavor & Fettle Vitamin C is slow release to help absorption and includes rose hips which is a natural source of the vitamin. It’s a great choice for athletes who may need additional recovery support as well as those who lead an active lifestyle.

Key Ingredients

Ascorbic Acid: Another name for vitamin C.

Rose Hips: Buds on the rose plant that contains a natural source of vitamin C.1

Other Ingredients

Stearic acid (vegetable source), modified cellulose, cellulose, calcium stearate (vegetable source), silica, glycerin

Dosage

Take one tablet daily with food

Duration of Use

Unlimited. We are unable to make this in our bodies and need a regular intake source from food and/or a supplement.

Health Benefits

Immune Health: Supporting your immune health is probably what this vitamin is most known for. Vitamin C has the ability to support cellular health and lower oxidative activity, which is the fundamental role of an antioxidant.  This vitamin also has the ability to support the immune cells  and histamine levels which plays an active role in supporting your immune system.2 Use in clinical trials reveals that while vitamin C cannot prevent you from getting a cold, it can modestly reduce the severity and duration of imbalances when taken up to 1 gram per day. 2,3

With that said, there could be a potential role of supporting immune health and seasonal health when combined with adequate vitamin D serum levels, zinc, and Echinacea.4 Further trials are needed to fully confirm and understand the influence of this combination.4

Collagen Production: When ingested, vitamin C becomes involved in three reactions that are required for the formation of collagen which is essential for this structure providing protein found in the tendons, skin, cartilage and bones.2

For skin health, vitamin C helps to stimulate the production of the specific collagen types that may reduce with age. When taken in adequate amounts, vitamin C can support the stability of the epidermis and may have a potential role in wrinkle appearance.5,6  While isolated studies for using vitamin C and skin health are limited, there are two observational studies evaluating the role of diet on skin appearance which concluded that a diet rich in vitamin C and linoleic acid (as found in chicken, nuts and seeds) decreased the appearance of wrinkles.7As well as a diet rich in vegetables, fruits, olive oil and beans. 7,8

For cartilage production and joint health, a study evaluating the use of vitamin C in patients with discomfort of the knee revealed that this vitamin may be a useful aid in the early stages of development and reduction of severity.9 Another study reviewed the role of vitamin C in removing senescent cells that is thought to contribute to the development of joint discomfort while protecting the cartilage.10 The authors concluded that vitamin C could be a potential supporting agent in the therapeutic care of joint health.10

Mood: One surprising role of vitamin C in the body that often goes unnoticed is the involvement with neurotransmitter synthesis.2 While mood fluctuations are very complex and an individualized approach by a healthcare professional is highly recommended, at the foundation of structure and function of neurotransmitters, nutrients from your diet are required.11 One of them being vitamin C. In a study evaluating plasma vitamin C levels in 139 male students, those with a higher vitamin C status tended to have lower incidences of confusion, depression and anger.11 In another double blind clinical trial, the emotional state of short term hospitalized patients significantly increased after the administration of vitamin C.11

Other Ingredients

Vegetarian Capsule, Silica, and Magnesium stearate (from palm oil)

Dosage

Take three capsules daily.

Duration of Use

Due to the inclusion of Chaste Tree, it is advisable to use it for up to 6 months then pause for a short period before using again.

Health Benefits

Women’s Hormones: Female hormone health is a complicated and intricate dynamic that requires the proper functioning of your cells and sufficient vitamins and minerals that support thyroid function as well as the health of the reproductive system during various phases of the menstrual cycle. Our multivitamin provides various essential vitamins and minerals such as vitamin D, folate, magnesium, zinc and iron that are beneficial for hormonal health. These levels are in a lower quantity and provide these nutrients from whole food sources. We encourage a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, quality proteins and healthy fats to further support the intake of these crucial nutrients.

We also include Chaste Tree Extract (Vitex agnus-castus) to support various areas of female hormones such as those associated with menstruation, breast tenderness and natural transitional activity associated with menopause. In a review of using chaste tree to address menstrual symptoms, post menstrual and fertility health, 43 articles concluded that the use of this herb may be beneficial for breast sensitivity, food cravings, mood fluctuations and discomfort.3 In another randomized, multicenter placebo controlled study the use of chaste tree to address menstrual ailments were evaluated.4 There were 217 women divided into either a placebo group or a 40mg dosage group to test the score of these symptoms.4 By the third menstrual cycle of treatment, there was a significant decrease in reported symptom severity as compared to the placebo group without serious adverse events.4 The authors concluded that this herb may be a beneficial supporting agent in addressing menstrual health symptoms.4

In a randomized double blind study involving 52 women going through menopause, Chaste tree was administered for 8 weeks to compare symptom reduction as compared to a placebo group.5After this time frame, the mean scores for those taking the herbal extract were significantly lower than those of the control group indicating that chaste tree may be beneficial during the natural phase of menopause.5 The reasoning behind this benefit may be due to the phytoestrogenic effect of chaste tree.5

Urinary Tract Health: More detail on the benefits of cranberry in the body can be found on our cranberry resource page found here. Cranberry extract has been evaluated for supporting the health of the urinary tract.6,7 For treatment, however, studies are inconclusive and using cranberry for this purpose is not recommended due to the possibility of kidney infection if not addressed properly. Use of this berry may be beneficial while determining the underlying cause of recurrent infection.8

Health Benefits

Male Hormones: Men’s hormones can fluctuate with age or environmental exposure to certain heavy metals or pollutants that disrupt the endocrine system. These are generally referred to as endocrine disruptors. Nutrients such as vitamins A, E, D, B9 and the mineral zinc can all support the healthy function of male hormones.3 Supporting basic nutrient levels is a great starting point for supporting the healthy production of male hormones such as testosterone.

Take for example zinc, in a review of trials evaluating the function of zinc in testosterone levels and sperm quality, zinc acted similar to an antioxidant, increased sperm count and helped in “maintaining the lining of the reproductive organs”. 4 Zinc may be beneficial for testosterone health if the body is deficient in this mineral.

Prostate Health: Saw palmetto is included in minor amounts within this formulation to support the maintenance of a healthy prostate.5,6,7 While clinical trials vary in their conclusions of the therapeutic activity of saw palmetto for prostate health, one double blind, placebo controlled randomized comparative study looked at the use of saw palmetto oil in association with prostate health and low androgen levels.6 Subjects between the ages of 40-65 were randomized to either a placebo or the palmetto oil for 12 weeks.6 After this period, the authors saw a reduction in markers associated with prostate irregularities indicating that this herb may be a supportive aid in prostate health.6

Furthermore, a meta-analysis and systematic review of using saw palmetto for lower urinary tract needs associated with an enlarged prostate showed no statistically significant improvement, however, when combined with other phytotherapy (plant based medicines)  treatment methods, there could be a potential benefit.9 Even with these findings, the association between saw palmetto and prostate health is still being debated and researched before final conclusions can be made.

Please note that our formulation has a much lower dosage than these trials and it is not guaranteed that the same outcomes will occur when using our multivitamin versus an isolated higher dose extract of Saw Palmetto.

Selenium: Vital mineral that supports thyroid health and acts as an antioxidant in the body.

Chromium: A mineral that supports healthy insulin and blood sugar activity.

Other Ingredients

Cellulose, modified cellulose gum, stearic acid (vegetable source), calcium stearate (vegetable source), lemon bioflavonoid complex, silica and glycerin

Dosage

Take one tablet daily with food.

Duration of Use

Unlimited. Great for general health maintenance.

Health Benefits

Nutrition Support: Multivitamin and mineral supplements are just one aspect of wellness for nourishing your body. The use of a daily supplement such as this is intended to be used in conjunction with a whole foods, nutrient dense diet. Not in place of. Our intention behind supplying a few multivitamin/mineral options is to help meet potential dietary needs that may be missing while making small, gradual changes towards a lifestyle that supports your personal needs and health goals.

The formulations of multivitamin and mineral supplements vary greatly in their dosages and what is included. Our basic multi has 100% daily value of 15 essential nutrients. Daily Values are established by the average intake needed from the diet to prevent ailments whereas when you see Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA), these values take into consideration other variables such as your gender, age and if you are breastfeeding or pregnant. Daily Value is typically at the higher end of the RDA values for adults when taking a general multivitamin/mineral supplement.1

While a multivitamin such as our Basic Multi provides the essential nutrients needed by the body to perform its daily functions, other nutrients may become conditionally essential. This would include things such as a probiotic for the gut microbiome, CoQ10 for mitochondria energy production and flavonoids for antioxidant support to support the activity of healthy cells.2 That is why the essential nutrients of a multivitamin are just the foundation to supporting your overall health and it is often recommended to tailor your regimen to what you personally need. Given the vast variations of an individual’s genetic and health history and the multiple actions of vitamins and minerals in the body, a multiple formula may act as reassurance to potentially lower the risk of deficiency. 2,3,4
